About the Project
The purpose of the North Metro Corridor Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is to analyze transit alternatives in the corridor that runs between Denver Union Station and 162nd Avenue, passing through Denver, Commerce
City, Thornton, Northglenn and unincorporated Adams County. Begun in summer 2006, the two-year EIS will build upon recommendations from previous studies of the corridor, including RTD's North Metro Transportation Study (completed in 2001) and the Three Corridors Scoping Study (completed in 2005). The goals for the North Metro EIS are to avoid or minimize environmental impacts while: - Providing a cost-effective, high-capacity transit option in the North Metro Corridor.
- Providing a high-quality and reliable transit service that reduces commute times and delays and encourages travel by more efficient, environmentally sensitive means than vehicular travel.
- Providing system linkage with other FasTracks corridors.
- Facilitating land use and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) plans in the North Metro Corridor.
- Enhancing access to jobs, entertainment, recreation, and shopping for existing and future residents of the North Metro Corridor.
- Providing equitable transit opportunities regardless of financial means.
- Improving the environmental sustainability and development of sustainable communities.
