Bus Maintenance Facility

In order for the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility to be built, the existing RTD Platte Division Bus Maintenance Facility will need to be relocated because the site is not large enough to support both the Bus Maintenance Facility and the new Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility.

Recently, the site RTD had proposed for the relocation of its Bus Maintenance Facility (the former Denver Post site at I-25 and I-70) was sold by its current owners for more than $48 million dollars. This is a significantly higher price than the property was purchased for earlier this year.

Based on this new information, RTD will expand its Bus Maintenance Facility site evaluation to include additional locations while still considering the former Denver Post site to ensure that the most suitable location(s) for the bus maintenance functions are thoroughly vetted.  This information does not alter RTD's plans to locate its Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility at the existing Platte Division location, making the relocation of the current bus maintenance facility still necessary.

RTD has already begun to explore other additional sites that meet the criteria for its bus maintenance functions and hopes to identify feasible sites in the coming weeks with a recommendation on a preferred site in the coming months.  RTD will reach out to the communities in and around the potentially feasible sites to present the range of alternatives, a recommendation, and to gather input.
