RTD’s McCaslin pedestrian bridge construction project gains industry recognition

PROJECT ACKNOWLEDGED FOR ACCELERATED CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES

Denver, Feb. 11, 2008 - The Regional Transportation District's construction of the McCaslin Boulevard Pedestrian Bridge has earned recognition from top transportation organizations for its use of accelerated construction techniques and the seamless process of the project.

An abstract summarizing the project, its methods and its overall success will be presented at the Federal Highway Administration's 2008 "Accelerated Bridge Construction: Highway for Life" Conference in Baltimore, Md. on March 20-21. The project has gained industry recognition for its streamlined construction efforts, allowing the project to be completed safely and quickly, minimizing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

The abstract was chosen for presentation at this year's conference for its depiction of the accelerated construction techniques used on the McCaslin Pedestrian Bridge, which opened in June 2006. The abstract was also presented at the World Steel Bridge Symposium in New Orleans on Dec. 4, 2007.

The abstract highlights the on-site fabrication of the single-span 234-foot pedestrian bridge, its method of erection and its well-thought out implementation that benefited not only the construction process but RTD's patrons by providing a safer and more convenient interchange.
