About The Project
The I-225 Corridor is a 10.5-mile light rail transit extension proposed to travel through the City of Aurora and one small section of the City and County of Denver. The I-225 Corridor will connect the existing Southeast Light Rail Nine Mile Station with the planned East Corridor's Peoria/Smith Station and will include eight stations.
Proposed Technology: Light rail extension from Nine Mile
Length: 10.5 miles
Proposed Route: The Preferred Alternative begins at Nine Mile Station and ends at Peoria/Smith Station with a cross platform connection to the planned East Corridor
- Section 1 - Nine Mile to Exposition: Begins in the center of the I-225 median at the existing tail track near the Nine Mile Station. The alignment bridges from this center median location over the I-225 northbound lanes and remains along the east side of I-225 until Exposition Avenue to accommodate CDOT's ultimate widening configuration. This section includes the Iliff and Florida Stations. This section also includes replacement of the existing Yale bridge and additional light rail bridges over Iliff and Mississippi Avenues.
- Section 2 - City Center: The alignment crosses Abilene Street into the center of Exposition Avenue. At Sable Boulevard, the alignment crosses to the east side and the City Center Station is just north of Centrepoint Drive, near
RTD's bus transfer facility. The light rail exits the station and enters the
center lanes of Sable Avenue south of Alameda Avenue and continues in the center until Ellsworth Avenue. At Ellsworth Avenue, the alignment turns west and remains center running until it reaches a new signalized intersection at Blackhawk Street, where light rail would transition to the north side of Ellsworth Avenue. The Blackhawk Street/Ellsworth Avenue intersection also would provide access to the 2nd/Abilene Station park-n-Ride. - Section 3 - Ellsworth to Fitzsimons/Montview: The light rail alignment continues north crossing the High Line Canal and Trail into the 2nd/Abilene Station. The light rail remains on the east side of I-225 bridging over 6th Avenue and Toll Gate Creek into the 13th Avenue Station. The light rail turns west, crossing under the I-225 underpass then over Toll Gate Creek. On the west side of Toll Gate Creek and I-225, the light rail continues north to an elevated Station platform over Colfax Avenue. The light rail travels
along the east side of Fitzsimons Parkway crossing to the north side of Montview Boulevard. - Section 4 - Fitzsimons/Montview to Peoria Smith: The Montview Station would be located in the heart of the Anschutz/Fitzsimons Medical Campus. The alignment continues west on the north side of Montview Boulevard to Peoria Street and turns north on the east side of Peoria Street. The LRT crosses Peoria Street at 25th Avenue and continues on the west side to the Peoria/Smith Station. This includes an at-grade crossing of the future Martin Luther King Boulevard intersection and a bridge over Sand Creek. North of 33rd Avenue (which becomes part of the Smith Road realignment developed by the FasTracks East Corridor project), the alignment shifts further west to allow for a future grade separation structure (by others) for Peoria Street and the rail lines north of Smith Road.

Notes:
- Parking supply based on FasTracks Program and allocation of RTD model run results.
- Subsequent to opening the I-225 LRT, RTD will monitor the station area parking demand and work in partnership with stakeholders to identify parking strategies to meet future demand.
- Parking spaces budgeted for the I-225 Corridor at the Peoria/Smith Station, but will be constructed as part of the East Corridor project
Please note that any planning or development that occurs around a station is the responsibility of local jurisdictions and/or private developers. The City of Aurora
is currently engaged in planning efforts around the proposed I-225 stations.
